According to a new Ipsos survey commissioned by Mars, people living in the world’s largest economies believe it is more important for businesses to tackle climate change than economic issues.
The survey asked 14,468 people across the USA, UK, China, Japan, Germany, France, and India about how businesses should balance climate and economic concerns. Even amid the ongoing cost of living crisis, 38% of respondents said businesses should prioritize climate action, while 32% said equal attention should be paid to both issues.
The survey highlights the public’s belief that businesses should play a pivotal role in combating climate change, along with government; 46% of those surveyed believe large businesses have a responsibility to act, compared to 49% for the government.
However, skepticism in businesses’ actual ability to address climate change persists. More respondents ranked the climate action of multinational businesses as poor (34%) than good (27%). And while 42% of respondents think businesses ‘probably will’ commit to tackling the crisis, 27% believe they ‘probably will not’.
The Ipsos survey was commissioned by Mars, who recently committed to spending USD 1 billion over the next three years as part of its ambitious strategy to halve its emissions by 2030.
