Walmart Project Gigaton
Walmart’s Project Gigaton is a sustainability initiative aimed at reducing one billion metric tons of greenhouse gases from the global value chain by 2030.
The project focuses on six key areas critical to reaching zero emissions:
- Energy use
- Nature
- Waste
- Packaging
- Transportation
- Product use and design
Walmart is engaging its suppliers in climate action to achieve this goal, and more than 4,500 suppliers have signed on to date. The project’s success would represent a substantial reduction of Scope 3 emissions within Walmart’s and its suppliers’ value chains. Suppliers can participate by setting emissions reduction targets in one or more of the six key areas or by setting a broad emissions reduction strategy that captures their work across many areas.
