Product Environmental Footprint (PEF)
Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) is an EU-recommended methodology that harmonizes existing Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) standards by measuring a product’s environmental impact from raw material extraction to disposal. The PEF calculates 16 impact categories, including greenhouse gas emissions, water and energy consumption, and waste generation. Some legislative proposals recommend reporting only climate change as the primary indicator, in which case climate impacts can be isolated among the 16 impact categories covered by the PEF.
