Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation

A proposal by the EU published on March 30th, 2022, to improve the sustainability and circularity of products. The proposal builds on the existing Ecodesign Directive and establishes a framework to set ecodesign requirements for various product groups. The framework includes requirements for product durability, reusability, upgradability, resource efficiency, recycled content, remanufacturing, recycling, carbon and environmental footprints, and information through a “Digital Product Passport.” It will significantly improve the environmental sustainability of products and lead to energy savings of 132 mtoe by 2030.
